Day 9 - Back to Vienna
Today it's so long Innsbruck, hello again Vienna. We stretched our legs one last time around time the Inn River and small shops. Boy can I pick 'em. I noticed these really sleek men's watches. The prices are unbelievable. 7,500€ and up. No, I didn't accidentally add a zero.
With a 4 1/2 hour train ride back to Vienna I caught up on some blogging. This was the one train ride we really needed to be on time in order to meet our friends for dinner and a Mozart Concert. What's Austria without a little Mozart? The train ran late. Only about ten minutes, but enough to miss our local connection. Not to worry, there were other connections every few minutes.
Vienna night life is jumping. At our connection there were as many workers retuning home as locals, young and old, heading to town. We plopped ourselves down in the middle of the throng with all our luggage for the few stops to our now familiar Vienna hotel.
Our friends were ready for us and our evening's excitement. We headed out for a quick bite and the concert at the Mozart Musikverein (society). From our side balcony seats we didn't have the best view, but it was an engaging show including the best-of pieces from Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, A Little Night Music and the Magic Flute. The conductor tried to teach us how to clap in rhythm with Alla Turca. We mostly succeeded. This tutorial came in handy during the encore when the orchestra played Strauss II's Radetzky March. Of course, the evening would not be complete without the Blue Danube waltz!
With so much high culture we couldn't let the evening finish without a down-to-earth plus one at a historical brewery, 1516, where we finally found a decent IPA. The only regrettable occurrence of the night was accepting the hot wing challenge. 'Nuf said.
